ABOUT ME

I started training as a psychotherapist with the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute in 2021, after a long career in another sector.

I currently work with clients in both Merthyr MIND and Brecon MIND, organisations which provide free or very low-cost therapy for clients referred through their primary care health service (GP).

MY APPROACH

I am training in Gestalt Psychotherapy, which is a holistic approach to mental health and personal growth. It's a talking therapy that sees individuals as whole beings, embedded in their unique environment, and not just a collection of symptoms or problems.

One of its core principles is the emphasis on the 'here and now',  bringing awareness to our immediate experiences, and exploring how what has happened in the past shows up in our relationships and patterns of behaviour today.  This often involves paying attention to bodily sensations, emotions, and the interactions between the self and the environment. Through this process, we can gain insight into our patterns of behavior, and open up possibilities for change.

Another key element of Gestalt therapy is the therapeutic relationship. I work collaboratively with you to create a safe and supportive space for exploration.  Together we can harness creative techniques to help you better understand yourself and your relationships.  The holistic Gestalt approach means that what happens in the therapy room, in our client/therapist relationship, is not seen as removed and seperate from 'real' life, but as a real and meaningful part of the whole of your life.

Research shows that the number one factor in determining positive outcomes for talking therapies is the relationship between therapist and client.  This means it is really important to find the right therapist and the right sort of therapeutic approach. The best way to see if I might be a good fit for you is book a free introductory meeting where we can explore the possibility of working together.
